My favorite jewelry designers are those who start with a GEM. Gem lovers like Harry Winston, who believe that gems are so special that they deserve to be highlighted. Look at those magnificent stones, so full of style and elegance. They are not just any stones, those are Tsavorite, Padparadscha Sapphire and Changing Color Purple Sapphire. Each one of them is a little wonder of nature, all so rare.
All Harry Winston Rings. First Marquesa Tsavorite Cocktail Ring with an oval tsavorite 8.18 carats ; 4 marquise & pear shaped diamonds 0.30 total carats, in a platinum setting. Second: Sunset By Harry Winston, Padparadscha Sapphire and Diamond Ring. Oval padparadscha sapphire 11.41 carats ; 4 baguette diamonds 1.24 total carats in 18k yellow gold and a platinum setting. Third: Color Change Purple Sapphire and Baguette Diamond Ring. Cushion cut purple sapphire 8.10 carats ; 6 baguette diamonds 0.96 total carats in a platinum setting.

Altuzarra black gold ring fully set with black diamonds, Gaia Repossi for Joseph Altuzarra
To me Gaia Repossi‘s designs are those of & for a strong woman. Her jewelry is daring and inspired with a modern perspective on ancient ethnic cultures. I am wondering whether Gaia is named after the Greek Goddess or the Berber King?

There is something going on with emeralds lately, so I’ve decided to post a few of my favorite emerald pieces for inspiration.
Both sides of the Great Moghul Emerald, one inscribed with Shiite invocations and the other with floral pattern.
Angelina Jolie’s emerald earrings are to die for… and she wears them perfectly! This ring by JAR reveals what an emerald really is, don’t you think? What I like most about emeralds is that the inclusions look like veins or maybe organisms, like there is an entire world in there. It’s almost like they’re alive..

On the 17th of March, Sotheby’s will hold an auction in its London quarters. I had a quick look at the e-catalog and in general the lots are very nice but not particularly extraordinary. Here are neither the most expensive, nor the most impressive but my favorite all the same.
Lot 152: A beautiful Opal and Diamond Necklace. Lot 155: A Gold and Coral hinged Bangle by Phillips of Cockspur Street, mid 19th century. There were a lot of other beautiful jewels, for instance an amazing sapphire and diamond ring by Tillander (lot 106) and three lovely Garnet and Diamond Hair Combs from the late 19th century (lot 159), you can see them in the e-catalog
